The fear of number 13 is the most widespread superstition in the Western culture. Engineers and architects feed the superstition: with skyscrapers, hotels and elevators without 13th stage, and with planes without row or seat number 13, and so on …

The problems relating to the myth of Friday 13th are recurring because in our current Gregorian calendar, any year, as well normal as bissextile, comprises at least 1 Friday 13th to the maximum of 3 Fridays 13th . One thus did not finish hearing some to speak about.

The annual maximum of 3 Fridays 13th is reached if and only if the 1st day of the year considered is Thursday (of a normal year) or Sunday (of a leap year, as in 2006, January 1st , 2006 = Sunday). In addition, the 13 of the month slightly have a stronger probability of falling one Friday than any other day week (see Friday 13th – Fateful Combinaison).

The number of Friday 13th in a given year is a function at the same time of the type of year (normal or leap year) and of the day of the week during which fall on January 1st .
This year there will be 3 Fridays 13th, in February, March and November 2009, because the January 1st of the normal year 2009 was a Thursday.

Since centuries, the combination and the components of Friday and the number 13 are symbols of misfortune. One always regarded the 12 as “divine” number and the subsequent 13 one becoming symbol of “curse”. La problématique relative au mythe du vendredi 13  est récurrente car dans notre actuel calendrier grégorien, toute année, tant normale que bissextile, comporte au minimum 1 vendredi 13 et au maximum 3 vendredis 13. On a donc pas fini d’en entendre parler.

Le maximum annuel de 3 vendredis 13 est atteint si et seulement si le 1er jour de l’année considérée est le jeudi (d’une année normale) ou le dimanche (d’une année bissextile, comme en 2006, 1er janvier 2006 = dimanche). De surcroît, le 13 du mois a légèrement une plus forte probabilité de tomber un vendredi que tout autre jour de semaine (voir Vendredi 13 – Combinaison fatale ).

Le nombre de vendredi 13 dans une année donnée est fonction à la fois du type d’année (normale ou bissextile) et du jour de la semaine pendant lequel tombe le 1er janvier.
Cette année il y aura 3 vendredis 13, aux mois de février, de mars et de novembre 2009, car le 1er janvier de l’année normale 2009 était un jeudi.

Depuis des siècles, la combinaison et les composantes du vendredi et du 13 sont symboles d’infortune. On a toujours considéré le 12 comme nombre “divin” et le 13 subséquent devenant symbole de “malédiction”. En effet il y a 12 dieux dans l’Olympe antique, 12 signes du zodiaque, 12 travaux d’Hercule, 12 tribus d’Israël et 12 apôtres de Jésus. Chez les Italiens, c’est 17 qui est le nombre malchanceux et non 13. “Fare tredici!” ou “Faire le treize” est un slogan de la lotterie nationale. Alors, si vous trouvez le nombre 13 vous gagnez. Toutefois, on ne trouvera pas de chambre 17, ni de 17ème étage dans les hôtels, ni de siège no 17 sur les avions de la compagnie italienne Alitalia. Des millions d’Asiatiques ont peur du chiffre 4. En effet, ce chiffre dont la prononciation est identique à celle du mot “mort” tant en mandarin, en cantonais, qu’en japonais. Pour les Japonais, le nombre 4 est hanté car il se prononce “shi“, et ce dernier mot signifie “la mort“.

Par ailleurs, il importe de souligner que mystérieusement la vie et la mort du pape Jean-Paul II sont toutes deux fortement marquées par le nombre 13 ! …

Talisman pour St-Valentin



Vous ne pourriez pas jouer à nos fantastiques sudokus-coeur si vous n'êtes pas heureux le jour de la St-Valentin. 
Pour vous protéger contre tout malheur ce jour précis, nous vous offrons ici un talisman. 
Il s'agit d'un carré magique d'ordre 4, dont la première ligne est constituée des chiffres de la date courante de la St-Valentin.
Portez-le et tout ira bien le jour de l'amour, sans chicane avec votre blonde ou partenaire.

La somme de chacune des 4 lignes, 4 colonnes et 2 diagonales de ce carré-talisman est 46. Ce total magique est aussi égal à la somme des quatre termes du sous-carré central, d'ordre 2x2, délimité par les lignes et les colonnes externes.

Lines  ⇒  14 + 2 + 20 + 10 = 21 + 9 + 15 + 1 = 8 + 18 + 4 + 16 = 3 + 17 + 7 + 19 =46
Colonnes  ⇒  14 + 21 + 8 + 3 = 2 + 9 + 18 + 17 = 20 + 15 + 4 + 7 = 10 + 1 + 16 + 19 = 46

Diagonales  ⇒  14 + 9 + 4 + 19 = 3 + 18 + 15 + 10 = 46

Talisman for Valentine's Day



You could not play our fantastic heart-sudokus if you are not happy on Valentine's Day. 
To protect yourself against any misfortune that specific day, we offer here a talisman. 
It is a magic square of order 4, the first line consists of the figures of the current date of Valentine. Wear it and all will be OK on the day of love, without quarrel with your girlfriend or partner.

The sum of each of the 4 lines, 4 columns and 2 diagonals of this talisman-square is46.
The magic total is whenever equal to the sum of four terms of the
sub-central square, order 2x2, bounded by the outside rows and columns.

Lines  ⇒  14 + 2 + 20 + 10 = 21 + 9 + 15 + 1 = 8 + 18 + 4 + 16 = 3 + 17 + 7 + 19 =46
